Security the fifth S in Thailand tourism survey
Despite the recent bad press, tourists in general still believe that Thailand is a vibrant destination with friendly people, according to "Is Thailand Still Amazing?" a study released recently by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

However, the survey showed that, after sun, sea, sand and sex, a fifth S, security, is becoming a matter for concern. The study showed tourists viewed Thailand's nightlife as the most dangerous, followed by land transport. View more...

Thais urged to change for AEC 2015
Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) advised Thailand today to change its trade and investment models from one of trying to attract investment into the country to one of investing more in Asean markets and then bringing revenue back to the country.

Speaking at "New Dimensions in Asean", a seminar organised by the Judicial Training Institute for high-ranking Thai officials, Dr Surin said Thailand must change itself to start focusing on innovation, using technology to improve its economic potential, such as packaging development or trading online. AirAsia buys Indonesia' Batavia Air
Low cost carrier Air Asia has announced said that it is to buy Indonesia's Batavia Air for US$80 million (B2.4 billion), with the acquisition expected to be complete by the second quarter of next year.

AirAsia chief Tony Fernandes, who has announced he is moving to Jakarta to oversee AirAsia's expansion, described the acquisition as a "fantastic opportunity". He said it would "accelerate our growth plans in one of the most exciting aviation markets in Asia [Indonesia] and further underlines our belief in the growth potential of Indonesia's aviation sector". The 'Hungry Ghost' festival is an important merit-making event for the ethnic Chinese. Special food, flowers and candles are offered to ancestors on altars. Other offerings are made to 'feed the ghosts without relatives' that are said to have been released from hell for the month. Experience this beautiful event for yourself at any Chinese Shrine on the island during the festival. Or if you want to enjoy one of the biggest Hungry Ghost celebrations in Phuket head to the fresh market on Ranong Road. The whole market and nearby areas will be colourfully decorated and feature interesting activities from about noon until midnight including the traditional merit-making ceremony, lion dances , magic shows, live concerts, cabaret shows and many more stage shows. Also expect to see plentiful local food stands during the event.
